The College Enters Its Golden Jubilee Year – A Report A function to mark beginning of year-long Golden Jubilee Celebration was held
on the Foundation Day of the College on August17, 2006. Prof. Deepak Pental, The
Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi was the Chief Guest on the august
occasion. Prof. R.S. Sharma, Vice President, All India DAV Management Committee,
presided over the proceedings. The distinguished gathering included Sh. M.L.
Khanna, Sh. R. P. Bansal, Justice Mittal and Sh.S. L. Suri, Vice Presidents of
DAV Management, Prof. Mohan Lal, Secretary, DAV Management, Sh.
Regional General Manager of Central Bank of India and Sh. S. L. Sharma of
Rotary Club, Delhi Central . Faculty members of the college and its Evening
counterpart participated in large numbers along with the students. Prof. Pental recalled his early student days at a DAV School and later at DAV college at Chandigarh. He dwelt at length on what ails education today, new trends of state abdicating its responsibility of educating every child, paid rich tributes to the tradition of DAV and saluted those great visionary institution builders who have created this chain of over 700 schools and colleges, including engineering and medical colleges and institutes of management. Prof.
R. S. Sharma highlighted many facets of the activities of the DAV organisation
and its efforts to educate masses. In fact the guiding principle as Prof, Sharma
put it was ‘taking high class education to masses at a reasonable cost’. The
college Principal Dr. P. K. Jain took this opportunity to apprise the gathering
of the future development plans of the college and its need and requirements. He
made a reference to the humble beginnings in a few rented rooms and a tent on
the top of DAV School, Paharganj
and traced developments at the present location as a multi-faculty institution
with 48 teaching rooms including two well equipped computer labs, seminar hall,
over 110 teachers and 2400 plus students.
Sant
Bharati, the President of Old Students’ Association assured that his
organisaton, through its vast network will do everything possible to help the
college achieve greater heights in the years to come.
The Programmes Planned For The Golden Jubilee Year · The College is planned a huge number of programmes to mark its Golden Jubilee Year. Some of the highlights are as follows:
It is proposed to make lecture on these themes an annual event on the academic calendar of the college.
· Various Departments in the college are preparing and fine tuning their plans to organise lectures and symposia.
Gandhi in Contemporary India, and The Right to Information Act.
· Departments of Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics and Computer Science are chalking out plans for various Inter College Competitions in their respective fields. · A day long seminar on Sports for All is in the pipeline. The other Inter College Sports events on the calendar are tournaments devoted to: Athletics, Cricket, Football, Judo, Volleyball, and Wrestling. · The Fine Arts and Cultural Society of the College has lined up: Inter College Debates in English and Hindi, Inter College Competition: Vocal Music, Inter College Competition: Instrumental Music, and Inter College Competition: Dance ·
In addition, live
performances by noted Classical singers and Ghazal singers are being planned. ·
The cultural programmes
will conclude with a gala Cultural Evening

Another ambitious programme to be taken up during the year will be
Human Development Survey of the some
Slums in Delhi. · Placement Cell of the college plans for enhanced interaction between the employers and the college students. They plan to bring out a brochure for this purpose.
