B.A. Programme

Every student shall be required to take language course in 2 languages (English and Hindi or MIL) and any one of the following combinations of two subject as discipline courses:

Each student will have to appear in two, three and four papers at the end of I, II and II year respectively in the main subject. I year papers are given below:

*I year students of B. A. (Hons.) Economics, Mathematics Hindi, Political Science, History, Sanskrit and English also have to appear in : (a) one language credit course, (b) one qualifying course and (c) one inter disciplinary course. The options available under these courses are given in Table: Concurrent Courses (pg No 12). In the second year a student shall offer two discipline centered courses other than their main discipline courses. Only one course can be offered from one discipline.

Each student has to appear in 5 papers in I year, 6 papers in II year and 5 papers in III year. 1st year papers are as follows.

B.Sc. (Gen.) Mathematical Sciences

Each Student will have to appear in two papers in the theory each in Mathematics, Computer Science & Statistics and one practical paper each in statistics and Computer Science at the end of each year. In addition, each student will have to appear in a paper qualifying (English) at the end of I year and a qualifying subject at the end of II year.

 

University Examination

All students are required to pass the University examination at the end of each year before they

proceed to the next higher class.

Internal Assessment

Students are required to regularly submit written assignments in different subjects to their teachers in tutorial/preceptorial groups. A mid-term examination will be held in the month of January 2007 tentatively between 9th- 23rd of the month (the exact dates will be notified later). 25% of total marks in a course will be awarded on the basis of internal assessment. Such assessment could be based on tutorial work/class presentation; mid-term examination and attendance. The marks secured by the student will be shown separately in the mark sheet issued by the university and these marks will also be added to the annual/semester examination marks for determining the division of the students.

Faculty Advisor

Each student will be assigned to a particular member of the faculty for the entire duration of the under-graduate studies. The role of such faculty advisor would be to provide guidance to the students on all matters, academic as well as non academic.

Identity Card

Each student of the College shall always carry his/her Identity Card. He/She will not be entertained by the college office unless he/she shows his/her Identity Card. Furthermore, a student may be asked to show his/her Identity Card by any member of the College staff if he/she violates discipline. The defaulters shall be strictly dealt with. Such students shall have to submit to the disciplinary jurisdiction of the Principal and the Vice-Chancellor and several authorities of the College/ University in whom may be vested the authority of exercise the discipline under the Act, the statues, the Ordinances and the Rules that have been framed by the College and the University. The students are advised not to bring outsiders with them in the College premises. If any outsider is found in the College premises indulging activities resulting in indiscipline, the outsider shall be invariably handed over to the Police and strict disciplinary action, even leading to expulsion from the College, shall be taken against the student who brought such outsider in the College premises.

Anti Ragging Regulations

1. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited within the college premises and any part of Delhi University system as well as in public transport.

2. Any individual or collective act or practice of ragging constitutes gross indiscipline and shall be dealt with under Ordinance XV-C.

3. Ragging for the purposes of this, ordinarily means any act, conduct, or practice by which dominant power or status of senior students is brought to bear on students freshly enrolled or students who are in any way considered junior or inferior by other students and includesindividual or collective acts or practices which

(a) involve physical assault or threat, use of physical force:

(b) violate the status, dignity and honour of students;

(c) violate the status, dignity and honour of students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes;

(d) expose students to ridicule and contempt which affects their self esteem;

(e) entail verbal abuse and aggression, indecent gestures and obscene behaviour.

4. In case any student who has obtained degrees of Delhi University is found under this ordinance committing an act or practice of ragging, he/she may be subjected, under Statue 15, to appropriate action for withdrawl of degrees conferred by the University.

5. For the purpose of this Ordinance, abetment to ragging will also amount to ragging.

 

Conduct Rules

(a) Students are expected to have regard and consideration for each other and be respectful

to the members of the College Staff.

(b) Any information desired from the office should be obtained through the respective

window.

(c) Students are expected to make proper and careful use of the College property.

(d) Students are expected not to walk about or make noise in verandahs when classes are

in progress.

(e) Students must keep their vehicles outside the College gate.

(f) Students are advised to see the Notice Board regularly.

(g) Smoking inside the College Campus is strictly prohibited.

(h) Chewing and Spitting of Pan/Gutkha/Pan Masala etc. in College Campus is strictly

prohibited.

Migration from one College to another

A student who wishes to migrate from one College of the University of Delhi to another, can do so only if the Principals of both the Colleges concerned agree to his/her migration and the University approves of it. Inter College migration is allowed, only upto 31st December, 2006.

Attendance Regulations

It is observed that a large number of students are detained from appearing in the University examinations due to shortage of attendance. It is in the interest of the students that they fulfill the attendance requirements of the University of Delhi. Students are required to attend at least two-thirds of the lectures and Tutorials/Preceptorials. Students are also required to submit the requisite number of assignments and project work as per the university norms. Marks in these shall also be counted in determining their final percentage in university examination. University attendance rules as in force from time to time shall be applied for counting the University requirements of attendance. NO STUDENT SHALL BE ALLOWED TO TAKE THE UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION UNLESS HE/ SHE HAS SATISFIED THE ATTENDANCE REGULATION OF THE UNIVERSITY. Students and parents are advised in their own interest to check up periodically with their teachers and College office about their attendance position. The College shall not be responsible in case they fall short of attendance. In case a student falls sick, and is absent from the College, a MEDICAL CERTIFICATE along with Doctor's prescription must be submitted within ONE WEEK OF RE-JOINING THE COLLEGE. NO MEDICAL CERTIFICATE WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER ONE WEEK. Copies of the syllabus are available in the college library. Students are required to copy them for their use.

Instructions for Concurrent Table

Each language credit course or an equivalent inter disciplinary course will have 38 marks paper in the university examination along with 12 marks for internal assessment. Minimum pass percentage is 40% and the marks will be counted in the final division awarded.

Qualifying course paper has a pass% of 36% and marks will not be counted in the final division. There will be no internal assessment for the qualifying papers. However, a student has to pass qualifying examination to be eligible for Honours degree.

bullet

Honours students in other than language/literature shall take lower courses in the qualifying paper if they have studied that language only up to class VIII. Students who have studied the language higher than class VIII will have to opt for higher level of the language.

bullet

Students who have not studied any of the languages after class VIII, or the language they have studied beyond class VIII is not offered by the college, will not be required to take a compulsory qualifying course in the language. Instead they will opt for one of the interdisciplinary courses in lieu there of. Students who have not studied any of the languages after class VIII, or the language they have studied beyond class VIII is not offered by the college, will not be required to take the qualifying course in language. Instead they will opt for any one of the inter disciplinary courses.

 Mathematical Awareness may be opted by students of first year Humanities/Social Sciences (Hons.) students who have studied mathematics only up to secondary level.

 All students will have to opt for two Discipline centered courses in the second year as prescribed by the university, from among the courses available in the college.

 

ATTENDANCE

For eligibility to take various examinations of the University, each student is required to attend at least two-third (67%) of the lectures as well as tutorials/ preceptorials separately in aggregate during the course of the academic year. In the case of Honours Students, they are required to attend two-third of the lectures in the qualifying language course also separately. Exigencies of any situation will be considered by the Principal in accordance with the rules of the University. Students are advised in their own interest to check up periodically with their teachers and college office about their attendance position. The attendance record is displayed on the notice board at the end of each term.

N.B. Application with Medical certificate and fitness will be entertained only if it is submitted within 7 days of rejoining the classes.

GENERAL RULES

1. Attendance: Minimum attendance as required under the rules for lectures, tutorials, preceptorials etc. must be completed by each student each year.

2. Periodicals Test/examination: Whenever offered, these must be taken compulsorily. Mid-term examinations as part of the internal assessment are held in December/ January for preparing the students for University examinations.

3. Free Periods: These to be utilized for study in the Reading room and Library.

4. Cleanliness: College premises must be kept free from torn papers and other litter.

5. Telephone: The office telephone is not meant for use by the student.

6. Identity Card: Each student of the College shall always carry his/her Identity Card. He/She will not be entertained by the college office unless he/she shows his/her Identity Card. Furthermore, a student may be asked to show his/her Identity Card by any member of the College staff if he/she violates discipline. The defaulters shall be strictly dealt with. Such students shall have to submit to the disciplinary jurisdiction of the Principal and the Vice-Chancellor and several authorities of the College/University in whom may be vested the authority of exercise the discipline under the Act, the statues, the Ordinances and the Rules that have been framed by the College and the University.

7. The students are barred from bringing outsiders with them in the College premises. Any unauthorized person found in the College Campus shall be dealt with strictly and may even be handed over to the police.

8. Notice Board: student must make it a habit to see the Notice Board for latest communication.

9. Smoking: Smoking and consumption of Intoxicants by the students within the premises of the College is strictly prohibited.

10.Any information desired from the office should be sought at the respective counters of the office.

11.Students are expected not to loiter around or make noise in corridors/ lobby.

12.Staff Room: Students are required not to enter the Staff Room without the permission of a staff member and not to stay in front of Staff Room.

13.Students must not pay any bribe to the members of the staff for seeking undue favours.

14.Students are free to meet the Principal for redressal of their grievances between 11 AM to 12 Noon on working days.

15.Students must switch off their mobile phones before entering the class. If mobile is found active, fine upto Rs. 250 shall be imposed.

16.Only the students of II and III year can contest elections for posts of office bearers of the college student union provided they have cleared all the papers and have secured at least 50% marks in the University examinations in the preceding year.

Ignorance of any rule will not be accepted as an excuse.

MAINTENANCE OF DISCIPLINE

The students are required to observe discipline in the college. As per Ordinance XV-B of the University, the following will constitute Breach Of discipline:

Physical assault or threat to use Physical force, against any member of the teaching and non-teaching staff of any Institution/Department and against any student within the University of Delhi;

bullet

Carrying or use of, or threat to use any weapon;

bullet

Any violation of the provision of the Civil Rights Protection Act 1976;

bullet

Violation of the status, dignity, and honor of students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Tribes;

bullet

Any practice, whether verbal or otherwise, derogatory to women.

bullet

Any attempt at bribing or corruption in any manner;

bullet

Willful destruction of institutional property;

bullet

Creating ill-will or influence on religious or communal grounds;

bullet
