P.G.D.A.V College was started in a modest way on the 17th of August 1957 by the D.A.V College Managing Committee, one of the biggest educational trust in the world. It started functioning in a small portion of D.A.V school on Chitragupta Road in Pharganj with a single digit number of teachers and double digit number of students. Progressing gradually in 1971, the college shifted to its own premises at a prime location between Lajpat Nagar and Ashram on the main Ring road.. Over a period, the college became coeducational and now has over two thousand students in the morning and one thousand students in our evening college. Our college is considered as one of the best institutions for all over development in South campus and Delhi university.

Courses: The college imparts honours in ten disciplines viz. B.Com(Hons), B.A.Hons in Mathematics, , History, Economics, Political Science, English, Hindi, Sanskrit and B.Sc(Hons) in Statistics and Computer Science. It is one of the few colleges to run the B.Sc( Gen) Mathematical sciences, which is a specialised course for mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics /Operational Research. The college also admits students for B.Com(pass) and the new B.A. programme. B.Com(Hons) hosts 120 students, B.Com(Pass) a 180 and B.A. Programme 120. Rest of the courses the admission level is about 30-40 students per batch.

Results: The results of the college in all courses have been excellent for the past few years. Our students have topped in the university in B.Sc(Hons) Statisctics. The results of B.Com(Hons) have also been note worthy and many of our students have done exceedingly well in the prestigious C.A examinations conducted by ICAI. It is a matter of pride that lots of our students have become CAs and MBAs and MCAs and are working as top officials in different parts of the world.

Faculty: Our faculty consists of a highly qualified and dedicated team of teachers. We have been achieving excellent results due to the efforts put by them. The strength of our faculty is the personal rapport they establish with their students and help them in improving their overall personality.

Infrastructure: The College has a 3 storeyed building, with spacious and well-maintained rooms and a backup generator for the entire college that assures uninterrupted power supply. Our college is one of the best-maintained colleges of the university. The college has a fully equipped computer laboratory to run the prestigious B.Sc. (Hons.) Computer science course and has an Electronics laboratory to support the course. Administrative and Accounts offices are computerized with an efficient and student friendly staff managing them. Our college has a well-equipped conference room with modern facilities in audio and visual equipments. A number of conferences, lectures and seminars are hosted regularly in the conference room. College also has broad band internet facilities for students using computers. The college has spacious lawns all around making it very picturesque. We also have a good canteen to cater to the students.

Library: Our library is one of the best in the university, and has more than 70000 books, a number of periodicals and research journals . It is fully computerized and issue and return of books is done through this process. It has very spacious reading rooms for students to sit and study.

Sports activities: P.G.D.A.V. college has a lush green play field and is the most sought after ground in the university. It is a matter of great pride to say that every student (not necessarily an outstanding sports person) gets the opportunity to participate in the sports activities. The college sportsmen have brought great laurels to the college. Players like Manoj Prabhakar, Ramamn Lamba, Ajay Sharma, Atul Wason were students of our college. In fact at one time 7 out of 11 players of the Ranji Trophy team of Delhi were students of our college. Recently, the college was privileged to host the concluding cricket match between India and Pakistan series for the blind .The organisers appreciated the facilities available in our college. Our college has been champion in Judo, Ball badminton and runners up in Shaeed Bhagat Singh Cricket tournament last year. A number of players of the college represented the university in many teams.

Cultural activities: These have been a great strength of the college for many years. Last year our cultural team won more than 60 prizes in the inter college competitions, including some prizes in the prestigious BITS Pilani, an All India Competition.

Strength : P.G.D.A.V. college has been providing excellent education, opportunities in co curricular and extra curricular activities to broaden the perspective and outlook of students. Our college is one of the best colleges for all the subjects that we offer and in particular for Commerce and Statistics. Discipline of students of the college is noteworthy. There have been no discipline problems in the last 20 years. College is very strict in adherence to attendance rules.

Alumni: Our Alumni Association is a proud amalgamation of top executives, bureaucrats and professionals like lawyers, chartered accountants, academicians and business executives. The association is very actively involved in the developmentof the college. Besides hosting two meetings every year, they formally welcome the new entrants. The Alumni Association have installed a number of scholarships and also conduct a number of competitions for the current students.. . This association may probably be the best such association amongst Delhi university colleges.

Placement cell: The on campus placements have been very successful. A number of students have been placed in top National and Multinational companies.

NCC: The College has a contingent for NCC, for both boys and girls. Our NCC organizes regularly lots of useful activities like blood donation camp, self defense training for girls etc.

Additional facility provided this year: A new computer laboratory with sufficient number of computers, peripherals and broadband internet connection are being provided for B.Com(Hons) students. In addition, an Internet room will be opened in the library for the use of all students.

What we are looking forward: Our College needs a good auditorium. Efforts are on to achieve the same.
