Collections and Services In the developing countries all colleges maintain libraries as it is obligatory on the part of a college to have a library, Our college library is one of the oldest libraries in the University of Delhi having been established in the year 1957. The library remains open through out the year from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on Sundays and other holidays. Our college library has a spacious building. It is centrally located and functionally designed. The library has 150 seats to accommodate the students and 20 seats for teachers. It has a space of about 8000 sq ft. The library is well lighted , both artificially and naturally and well ventilated. The reading room is provided with about 130 academic journals and popular magazines including dailies . There is a library committee in our college with the principal as the chairman the heads of teaching departments as its member the librarian is also the member and convener of the committee. This committee have a set of objectives in terms of policy, the allocation of funds etc. Library Collection A library collection is the sum total of library materials-books, periodicals manuscripts tapes etc. Of the three elements collection, building and staff-, which together make up a library, the most important exercise is the whole collection of varied books and reputed journals. Our college library has a collection of about 70000 books and 4000 bound journals. Technical Processing The library collection is properly classified and catalogued according to D.D.C. Scheme of classification and A.A.C.R. Cataloging Rules in order to make available to a reader with in the minimum possible time. The proper catalogue is maintained in the college library. Reference Books The college library has a good collection of reference books of different kinds such as Dictionaries , Encyclopedias , Biographical Sources, Year Books, Almanacs , Gazetteers, Guide Books , Atlases, Maps , Globs and Statistics etc. SAF/Book Bank Section Books from these sections of the library are issued to poor and deserving students for longer period. College has built up a good collection of about 12000 text books. About 250 poor and deserving students have been loaned 1050 books for the academic session from Book Bank and S.A.F section. Library Automation The library is computerized, The computer is used in various fields of library activities. Some of the areas of automation are Acquisition, Cataloguing and Circulation. Computer based Identity cards are being issued to staff and students. Computer-based circulation systems are being used in the library for issue and return of the books to staff and the students. College is shortly providing internet facilities to the students . Our library is considered one of the best libraries in the University of Delhi |
